Be prouder of this great little red dot
November 07, 2009 Saturday, 01:53 AM

I REFER to Thursday's report, 'Singapore a top choice for migrants'. I am a new permanent resident, and this report not only makes me proud, but also affirms my fundamental belief that Singapore is destined to be a global centre from a financial standpoint and a cultural and social perspective.

"If foreigners from all over the world can see this and are coming to Singapore, why can't Singaporeans?"

Precisely!! Its because of you sickening foreigners who have come to invade the country and rob us of our peace that we have enjoyed since our childhood that we Singaporeans don't feel proud of the country anymore. We were very, very proud of our country in all ways until recently when it was and is still being "prostituted" to you foreigners by our very own govt!

Of course, who wouldn't want a cheaply available prostitute with maximum services?? That's precisely why you foreigners have swarmed here and start talking wonderfully about your "adopted country". Go to hell, all of you!!

foreigners should shut the bloody hell.

I feel offended everytime I see them jabbing on and on , but did they do NS like I did back in the 80s of 2.5 years ?

Do they have go back do reservist up to age 40 ?

Singapore goverment should levy a 20 percent tax on all forengers in Singapore to distribute to those who suffered badly in NS.

I understand some of the perceived disadvantages of Singaporeans feel relative to PRs and this issue has been extensively debated both in the online forums and in the press. But, this letter is about encouraging us to appreciate the great strides that Singapore has taken to rightly achieve its place next to other developed countries of the world, so let's not turn it into a citizen vs. PR debate because that is not the point of this letter. Ranting here is not going to change things one jot. On the other hand, this is a good opportunity to take some perspective and appreciate what is good here.

Just out of curiosity. Where is little "Ang Moh" located? Assuming there's such a thing.

I agree with tanden 76. Every time someone wrote in to compliment Singapore one way or another, whether he/she be a tourist, a FT or even a PR, the response which followed, would almost always be predictably negative. Anyone with a positive comment therein could also expect a royal roasting from those with an opposing stand. I endorse his advice "this is a good opportunity to take some perspective and appreciate what is good here."

Singaporeans need time and space to reflect on how we got to where we are now, instead of having to be reminded by politicians. Perhaps then we may have a greater appreciation of our 'little red dot'. Hearing praises for our country's achievements especially when travelling abaroad helps too.
