Airline still required payment guarantee when credit card bill was settled
November 05, 2009 Thursday, 05:56 AM

IN JULY, I booked via the Singapore Airlines (SIA) website a return air ticket for my maid to go home for Christmas and New Year. I paid the airfare and related charges with my credit card at the time of the booking.

my recommendation: worry about something else like global warming. sq requires this for online bookings when the party travelling is different than the party paying. i've done it many times. there's nothing to get excited about.

Businesses in Singapore, be it SIA or hawker stalls, are all profit and not service oriented. They should learn from Hong Kong. Just look at how quickly they have accepted and embrace the folks from Mainland China....

Hi Sue Lynn

SIA is a big bully. I had a similar problem with them recently. They worry that the passenger may change the flight date on the return leg and thus the fare category may change and hence the need to levy additional charges to your card, assuming the pax has no means to settle the additional charges

Overall it is an extremely kiasu kiasi big bully attitute to protect their interest 100% foolproof

Many airlines have this ridiculous and inexplicable policy of requiring the passenger to produce the credit card of the on-line buyer even though they are one and the same person.

If the card holder and passenger are different persons, at least that is more acceptable. But for a purchase that has been done a few months earlier, there should be no need to produce the credit card. If there was any discrepancy, the card holder would have alerted the bank already.

in life, there's always a choice, if SIA doesn't suit one, just take your pick from many others.SIA won't get the recent Wall Street Journal No. 1 most admired company award in spore for no reason, there are customers who have travelled with SQ & have no qualms so far, thus making the airline most deserving of the award, please give them a break, sometimes we expect too much and when our expectations aren't met, we are too quick to pick..if there are much better airlines, its an open market anyways and numbers will do the talking..i'm still quite pleased with SIA, kudos for the recent award SQ!

Quote:
Singapore Airlines requires that an indemnity of payment form be signed to guarantee that the cardholder is aware of such a transaction taking place.

Although Ms Neoh noted that her credit card bill had been settled, we seek her understanding that this is still a necessary security procedure to protect both the cardholder and the airline. We have encountered previous cases where alleged fraudulent transactions for airfare payments came to light only some time after the credit card bill was settled. With this procedure, we hope to reduce the possibility of such unfortunate experiences for our customers.
i'm not sure how an indemnity given by the cardholder in favor of sia protects the former.
