SINCE June 1, the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) has tightened its criteria for foreigners who apply for employment passes.

This coming election will be different for me and my family. We have to very carefully consider the real possibility of our jobs being replaced by foreigners who can get job easily because employers here favor those who are younger and cheaper for similar skill set.

With the increased cost of living, and decreasing wages and the policy of having our wage cut once we are near our retirement years we need policies that can immediately addressed these issues of the people on the street levels.

It is no longer enough to have a good , credible government , because my family livelihood is at stake. We need a government that can really feel the stress and hardship and solve these issues on the ground level. We are not looking for temporary measures like TOPs up , or rebates. These are temporary measures and we are sick and tired of it..

We do not need arm chair generals who merely talks and brush asides bread and butter issues of the common people who are finding it have a future and call Singapore our home.

The alternative of not having any qualification criteria is not right as well. This should be replaced with a more relevant and meaningful measure. Otherwise employers could just bring in anyone who might not be able to even boil water!

Employers are so addicted to the quick fix FW drug. Take it away and they suffer withdrawal syndrome. They have lost the will to think out of the box or be innovative. It was the mistake of allowing all and sundry to apply for the A-ss pass that brought in loads of FT (fallen trash) to displace citizens, which will cost the PAP votes.

Most of these bloody prostitutes in Geylang have a degree from China. Will the govt issue them a Social Networking Pass?

The solution for the writer is simole. Make a narrower profit margin by paying workers well to attract them to work for him.

Towkays are getting richer by exploiting the cheap foreign labour instead of employing local ones. Once experienced, they will continue to do so, crying for help when new measures are introduced to change the trends.

Tell me, if the govt had not allowed large numbers of foreigners to work here, what will people like the writer do?

Clever Mustafa - beating high rental costs rather than gripping about labour costs.

Suggest that writer read the comment posted by Bennie Cheok - Set up apprentice scheme for hawker. If "hawker" can be trained as "Cook" in F&B Sector... think of all possiblities/opportunity that can be offered to fellow Singaporean...there are singaporean who work as hawker assistant where their skill can be put into good use... yellow ribbon project offering 2nd chance to fellow singaporean closed "shop" after a year...etc, etc, etc..

At least the MOM had done something right. This will cut down many tom **** harry from coming to Singapore.
The MOM now knows that previously those applying for S Pass are very likely to have fake certificate with inflated salaries of $1800 to meet the minimun requirement.
Well Done MOM. Similarly MOM also impose a new regulation for the EP that will benefit some Singaporean.
At least someone had responded to this DB
