Perm sec's French holiday: Family don't deserve exposure, condemnation
January 22, 2009 Thursday, 06:14 AM

I FEEL sorry for Mr Tan and his family. They do not deserve to have their lives exposed in the news for all to discuss and condemn, just because of his choice of vacation. I am sure he and his wife worked hard to achieve what they have today.

They are in public service lah! Mr Tan is lucky he is Spore PS. Elsewhere first world, the media track these guys down and record their every more and expose them when they do something questionable. If these guys don't want their lives exposed and discussed by his people, get out of public service is the solution.

The crux of the matter is, if you are rich or worst still, filthy rich, just don't flout or boast about your wealth.
He should learn a lesson from "smart alec" like Mr Teo and other MPs or top civil servants ( given the fat pay package, I'm not too sure if the word "servants" is still applicable. More appropriately should be changed to "masters" while tax payers should actually be refered as "servants").

I believe that the number of singaporeans who comdemn the perm sec is as much as (if not greater than) the number of singaporeans who condone him.

yet ST decides to publish 7 letters (including 5 online ones) defending Mr Tan, and choosing to publish none that criticises him.

oh i see, so this is one classic case whereby we fully understand why many people choose to label the ST as State's Times.

I seriously don't quite care how one spends their money, whether properly or weirdly. However, if one intends to indulge and publicise his indulgence, the publicity will bring about certain amount of attention. Then he would just have to deal with the attention.

He was rapped for writing to the press and bragging about it and not for taking personal leave or spending his own money. Infact, I thought civil servants were specifically told not to deal with the press and only through the public affairs department. So what he did was a stupid thing.

He wrote 2-page for spending $45,000.

PM Lee should write a 4-page for donating $500,000.

If he thinks that he did nothing wrong, why should he feel that he is being condemned? Or are you telling everyone to condone such acts of insensitivity?

I am sure the Straits Times Forum has received letters of condemnation for the article published but the way I see this, it is more to defend the stand of the Perm Sec.
Why?

Can't we have opinion from both thoughts?
We can't be doing propaganda now since our people are more educated than before. This is seemingly little of itself.

Reminds me of the CCTV news I watch in China. Those are bullshit.

Straitstimes desire better than this. Else the subscriber will better look for some other avenue to get better news coverage and honest views.

Mdm. Lee Yoke Lan,

Test your reaction when your boss tells you that you will not have bonus this year because the economy is no good. However, he bought a new Lamborghini Gallardo and drives it to work everyday. Tell me you have no reactions.
