I went through most of my 12 years of edcuation starting school at 7.30am and yes, there were times where I felt tired, but in general, it was good. My parents, my 2 siblings and I survivied the 7.30am start. What makes the kids todays different? Are the kids getting too pampered or are the parents themselves getting too pampered?
Besides the benefits of the students getting enough rest so they are able to optimise their learning capabilities. There may be other benefits.
1. The later school time would mean that there could be some changes in the traffic patterns. I stay near 2 primary schools and it is always a problem in the morning as parents drop off their children at school but also others are rushing to work. Maybe by changing the school hours to a later time may help elevate the traffic conditions.
2. for those parents working 9~5, there may be some monetary benefits as the children may not need to spend time at the childcare services as school time with co-curricular activities would means the day would end around the same time. This means parents could pick up their kids from school. This may amount to a monthly savings of $300. The bad thing is that the kid may have lesser time socialising with other children.
you are forgetting the teachers. To start teaching at 7.40am is crazy, but most just endure it. Most times the first session/period is quite pointless, students are still groggy and teachers have low energy.
