Shoppers confused by locked doors, poor signage
December 29, 2008 Monday, 01:37 AM

AS MY family and I were leaving Takashimaya department store last Thursday at 10pm, we found the exit doors to Orchard Road locked.

I've faced the same problem as the thread starter at Thomson Shopping Center as well. of the 3 available exits, there was only 1 exit door left in the 1st Storey at the taxi stand. I have to travel to each doors to my dismay and ended up asking other occupants where the exit is. Some like myself were equally confused but others headed to the carpark.

Anyone who is unfamilar with the building and is trapped in a fire outbreak may face peril consequence behind such locked doors. Hope the authorities address this issue.

heaven help you if you have a stomachache at 9.30 pm in any shopping centre in Spore. They close almost all the toilets for cleaning and refuse to let you use the facilities. anchorpoint, whatever points all the same. shameful!
they can't wait to chase you out and close shops at 9.30 pm- and talking about night buzz indeed!

It looks like it will take a fire with several deaths before those responsible will take note.

It appears there are many cracks appearing in safety standards in shopping centres. Maybe we should begion to pay more attention to this rather than dressing up the malls with fancy trivia. After all, do we need a major accident or heaven forbid, a death for those responsible to act.? Whilst at it, its becoming obvious that those on duty are ill-trained. I hope the reason for this ...is not a case of saving money.. tsk tsk.

Attn: Major retailers / shopping centres.
News aired many major retailers oversea are bankrupt, liquidated, close shops. I am surprise Singapore retailers are still VERY COMPLACENT at this time - never action ahead.

They may put up sale but the 'SALE' is not really sale - mark up and sell or sale on unwanted stuffs.

My warning :

1. It is time you take a deep slash in price to lower inventory and build up your CASH assets. The customers in SG is very very limited. The 1st stores to do so will reap its advantage. When every retailer do so, you lost the advantage.

2. Dun expect customer to always go for mediocre sale. Next yr when wholesale face presurres, warehouse sales will blossom. This is economic downturn ! Then customer goes there, few goes shopping centre to buy.

3. Current trend is not very healthy in SG, ppl shop and shop as if no recession. You-all feel is it right ? No! It is likely this trend will abruptly ends when some happening triggers - ppl finally wake up to facts. Then retailers will be at sudden lost.

4. Customer should train the retailer to face to their reality, control your buy esp on those shop "what we have is all over there! Find yourself - dun have mean dun have !". Go into the shop follow closely behind you..... interrupt your viewing of product by walking pass between you and your view.

With episodes like this repeated frequently in shopping malls and other service sectors, we still have a long way to go in terms of customer service.

When you have shopping malls oblivious to the financial crisis and have a mindset that doesn't care two hoots about customers, why shop near the end of closing time?

Maybe we should stop shopping after 8 pm and but only what we need.. Who knows we may be out of a job soon. Better save for a rainy day and be safe than to feel sorry afterwards.

Those bargain hunters who love no frills shopping at low prices should be extra careful when shopping at Mustafa Centre. The whole building at Syed Alwi Street is a fire trap, with good stacked up to almost the ceiling blocking passageways, fire escapes & exit points. I dread to think what would happen when a fire breaks out, & sends hordes of panic-stricken shoppers rushing to the few exit points available.

It took the old Robinson fire for an Inquiry to be held.

Do humans ever learn the lessons?

Or, disaster over ....blessings forgotten?

Which govt department issues approval for busy shopping centres on safety and rescue procedures?

"After all, do we need a major accident or heaven forbid, a death for those responsible to act.?"

Don't worry. You will get this template reply from those responsible :

This shouldn't have happened ... but it did ... let's move on.
