Are responses slower now?
December 27, 2008 Saturday, 01:25 AM

ON SUNDAY evening, my friends and I heard a woman's desperate screams followed by the sound of male shouts from the thick growth under the PIE flyover over Rifle Range Road.

It is very clear as reported in the papers that the police are down by at least 400 officers. That is the reason, why the response was very slow.

Are we running low on manpower over at MIB department? Mostly these MIB are young boys serving their national service and they always take a very long time to arrive at the crime scene, especially after 11pm. Gives one the impression that they are either idling around watching TV in their station or chatting on their mobile phones. If only they are on the ball!

Wow!!! Really ah??? Took more than 40 mins for ONLY 1 police officer to arrive at the scene??? In a small place like S'pore??? Can't believe leh!

Not enough policemen also couldn't be the case mah! Unless they've received too many prank calls before? Thus not taking the writer's call seriously? Something is definitely not right lah!

I have to agree that the response time of the police is extremely slow. A good example was at the National Stadium last Sunday, during the recent AFF Suzuki Cup semi-final between S'pore & Vietnam. Where were the cops & security personnel when fights broke out between rival supporters? Even after some fans called the police to the scene of fights, the perpetrators had long gone by the time our men in blue arrived. I am aware that the police cannot be everywhere at the same time, but the problem is that they weren't anywhere around the stadium, where sporadic battles broke out.

An acquaintence of mine, who works at a dept store, told me that it takes a police patrol car more than 2 hours to arrive after being notified of a theft in the store. It makes you wonder how long it will take the cops to come to your rescue, if you are being assaulted, even if witnesses nearby manage to dial 999 immediately.

Like what I said earlier, Police not enough men to even patrol the streets. I had a Police friend who told me that they cant consume their leave and even accumulated their compensated offs as they dont have enough men to cover each other. And, the only way to get their body to physically rest is to get an MC! Maybe, next time if you need to call 999, think twice. Better to call a friend or family members!

The place will be flooded with MIB within minutes if you say Chee Soon Juan is there.
