Flyer stays shut as probe begins
December 24, 2008 Wednesday, 10:30 PM

THE Singapore Flyer is likely to stay shut until at least the New Year as investigations get underway into what caused the six-hour breakdown on Tuesday which required rescuers to lower 11 stranded passengers to the ground by rope.
Yesterday, tourists and locals hoping for a sky-high view of Singapore from the world's largest observation wheel were turned away as the Flyer stayed shut by order of the Singapore Police Force.

The worst thing is that the Singapore Flyer never plan and think ahead

It was reported all passengers after being eventually brought down when the wheel turned again, they were led to be fed and ferried home without the opportunity for the press to interview them

They had never thought of what they are going to do the next day when passengers turned up......

Angry customers wanted refund were refused. This is wrong. After such frightful experience and with no certain date of re-opening, customer should be given option to refund. No everyone is enthused to return again. Singapore Flyer, are you listening ? Customers do not wish to be trapped to ride the Flyer again. Some are scared, some are no longer in Singapore when it re-opened....they should be refunded, period.

To many people, they won't even want to ride it even if it is free !

what's new? the singapore flyer is supposed to be a national pride but it is a national embarrassment from the moment it started. bouncer lookalike carpark "touts", poorly equipped capsules, pathetic shops.... nil customer experience to speak of. and now this. it is high time there is a change of management.

Had no idea that it stopped working 4 times already.
I would definitely not want to get stuck up there.
Also, have to wonder what there is to see anyway.

Theoreticall it need not take such long time to make the wheel running again if the service team is competent enough. Power failure can be by-passed to make the motor running again in short time.

True it is not necessary to evacueate when the system is safe. It is necessary to make the wheel run again in the shortest time. but why it took so long to connect the power to make the motor run again/

The UK eye has all the emergency food and water and communicaton system in place and breakdowns were restored in short time. The London was supplied by Germany engineering company.

7 hours is too long. Standby system to move the wheel is absolutely necessary if we want to avoid repeat of such embarassments.

What a way to welcome 2009 for the Flyer?

Merry Christmas. And a Happy New Year.

But how many humans around the world are so dead sure to be able to see and welcome sunrise on 1 January 2009?

Is it a kind of bad omen for the year 2009 ?

Especially it was reported that the wheel was make to turn the other direction so as to bring in better " fortune " for Singapore....now seems like the good fortune had to stop...everything against the dragon. Heavens' decision ( to be superstitous ).

I think nature's mechanical system works better, our planet earth has never slow down or stop.

BTW, who to call if the earth stop spinning ?

At the end of the day, there should still be a Manual Backup or a standalone unit capabable of turning the wheel in a power break down. Unacceptable mechanical design.
Now they will install one after this experience.
