S'pore Flyer turns again
December 23, 2008 Tuesday, 11:54 PM

THE Singapore Flyer started turning again at about 11pm on Tuesday night after the observation wheel grounded to a halt because of a technical fault.
Some 173 people were stuck in the capsules of the Singapore Flyer for hours. The wheel stopped spinning at about 4.50pm and rescue operations continued on through the night.

the wheel has been designed to be manually turned by human hand when power is cut off. why was this not possible in this latest incident and why the need to rapel the occupants down ? why the wheel was not manually turned immediately when it is known that the system is not working and needed to wait for so many hours ?

I was at the very top capsule at 165mtr above ground when it stopped. We had a pregnant girl and a baby (3mth old). All I have to say is the management there had absolutely no control of the situation except to bribe us with food and drinks and ward us away from the media

The staff were clearly untrained to handle a situation like this, and there is no evidence any crisis management training has occured. The best they can do is to hide the information.

Communication was just so poor. Someone in the top management must be responsible for the lack of a system or training.

Wonder what the authority had to say about this incident...

Will make interesting headlines for the next few weeks.

The headline.. that the Flyer(which does not fly) stops turning..is in itself news. But then, of course it was more a hiccup and failure in the system that stopped it turning.
Thank goodness there were no casualties but no doubt some heads will roll over the way staff and mangement handled this.
Interestingly enough, a friend who saw this online on ST, when he called me , thought the Flyer had stopped turning for good. That of course is news but not going to be totally unexpected.
The Eye on Malaysia offers real valuefor money in Malacca and one can enjoy the fun, the food, the smells and the various other attractions...all at a fraction of the cost of going on the Flyer.(which does not fly, by the way).
Still..the Flyer should give school children a super special offer just so at least it can be turning..oops... flying.. with enough people..on board, rather than going round..er..empty...most of the time. (Think of all that electricity..it uses!!!)
Maybe, the Flyer should have a buy one and get one free. for the kids. After all, its credit crunch time.

More bad things will happen there as the fengshui at the area is further disturbed.Expect more bad karma to sg as there are too many construction activities at that area esp, when the Marina barrage is completed, the flow of good "chi" is blocked.
So "GOOD LUCK TO SG".
THE SG DRAGON IS EXPERIENCING STOMACH AND BREATHING PROBLEM.

I only chuckled when the Indonesian lady from the tragedy complained that communication are poor.... the only explaination they offer for 5 hrs is "Technical Problem" !... hahaha... What do u expect from Singapore management ?... they don't train their staffs to handle tragedy, especially how to handle and console humans. They only see $$$$$$$$$$$ and too proud to think that any 'error' can happen !!
