December 22, 2008 Monday, 04:31 PM
KUALA LUMPUR - HIV carriers should not be allowed to marry, in order to avoid having sick children, a top Malaysian politician was quoted on Monday as saying.
'Somebody who is very sick like that should not be allowed to get married,' Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin, chief minister of northern Perak state was quoted as saying by New Straits Times newspaper.

Assuming the reports I'm reading here are true, I cannot help but wonder what kind of bozo-politicians Malaysia has.
First someone said he supported the guy who threw a shoe at George Bush. I cannot imagine words like this from a politician supporting such a childish act.
Then, this fellow says HIV carriers in Malaysia cannot marry. In my opinion, this is a violation of a basic human right.
I feel sorry for the future of Malaysia, if people like that are running your country. Thankfully not everyone in the Malaysian political scene is like that. Or it would be a big joke.

To curb the virus from spreading, it is fair for couples to go through test before marriage.
However, in a case when either couple or both couple has contracted HIV, they should not be denied from marriage. Malaysia condoned sex before marriage. If this rules is applied in M'sia, you will see MORE Hiv patients not wanting to go through the process of getting tested.
People not married = more sin = more innocent victim not knowing = more people contacting the virus.

Let the individuals decide, unless they are as ignorant and as s***** as the one who voiced out publicly that 'HIV carriers should not be allowed to marry, in order to avoid having sick children.'

to avoid progeny, why ban marriage? why not have birth control (altho not 100% foolproof) such as the condom, IUD, ligation/vasectomy etc? having HIV/AIDS isn't a sin!

The news article left out this piece of information, which was mentioned by Marina Mahathir elsewhere. Perhaps the journalist concerned did not want to keep people informed, or he or she did not know the background.
"And of course we should talk about condoms. In a study of HIV-discordant couples ( ie one partner HIV+, one not) at KLH a few years ago, it was found that despite counselling, Muslim couples still did not use condoms, thus putting the negative partner at risk (usually the wife). Although the study did not ask why, we can surmise that it is because Muslims believe that condoms are haram. Our ulama, unlike in Indonesia, have not unequivocally said that condoms are ok within marriage."

Japan asked for US to nuke China if war
(My question to THE Straits Times: WHY IT WAS NOT PUBLISHED? WHY ARE YOU HIDING ? YOU JAP or JUST DOUBLE STANDARD?!)
5:15AM Tuesday Dec 23, 2008
Japanese Prime Minister Eisaku Sato, a Noble Peace laureate, asked the United States in 1965 to deploy nuclear weapons against China if war broke out between the Asian rivals, according to newly declassified Government files.
The government of Japan offered the United States to strike a nuclear blow on China without hesitation in case of war in the Far East in the 20th century. Many Tokyo’s newspapers published shocking reports about the declassified documents of the Japanese Foreign Ministry dated from 1962-1974.
One of the documents says that then Prime Minister of Japan Eisaku Sato had a meeting with then Pentagon head Robert McNamara in January 1965. The Japanese prime minister offered Washington to strike a nuclear blow on China from if the two Asian nations went to war. The minister’s statements made during the meeting virtually approved the import of US nuclear weapons in Japan in case of emergency.
On the other hand, it was Eisaku Sato, who proclaimed the so-called three non-nuclear principles in the Japanese parliament in 1967: not to possess, produce or allow the entry of nuclear weapons. Sato’s anti-nuclear campaign earned him a Peace Nobel Prize in 1974, Itar-Tass reports.
The documents have thus cast a shadow on the sincerity of Eisaku Sato and all of his successors. The incumbent government of Japan released quite a dubious statement to explain the shocking publications. Chief Cabinet Secretary Takeo Kawamura (official No.2 in the Japanese government) stated at a press conference in Tokyo that the USA had not delivered its nuclear weapons in the country because Washington had never made an official notification of that.

The politician in question is utterly wrong, no what religion he practices. Firstly, it is really not necessary for one to be married to have children-a casual glance at birth rates will tell an average idiot this. Secondly, the literature is replete with studies regarding serodiscordant couples and hiv transmission; further, there are also studies galore which conclude that babies born to seropositive women are not necessarily hiv infected at birth. Thirdly, if both members of the couple shared responsibility not to possibly infect the other with a different viral strain, then this bigotry would be answered and the hiv transmission rate he fears would decrease, if not be eliminated.
