WHEN Ao Chengkai arrived in Singapore from Shanghai two years ago, he could not make a complete sentence in English.

And don't let Singlish/whatever language corrupt your foundation/daily usage to subvert your self-professionalising in whatever you endeavour. I've taught English to China nationals - who unashamedly/impassionedly questioned and dictionary-referenced to outshine - among local and Malaysian factory workers.

No wonder locals fear the likes of you - potential leaders and literary greats we so badly need. Slacking locals should pull up their smug bootstrings - instead of cower and harangue lingually as well as in other domains outclassed!

The outcome surely validates the critical importance of the English Language, at least in the academia.

Many will also agree that it is valid in the corporate world that we know.

Chengkai, you are an inspiration to our youngsters as well as adults like myself. I probably might take up Mandarin lessons again to upgrade as I would like to be able to read & write Mandarin proficiently the way you did with English. Not saying my English as well as Singlish are ok, I still have long way to go in these too.

Jousterr, are you a British still dreaming that you are in your Grrrreat British Empire!
Chengkai, please continue to use your own Chinese language if you want to (other than English) as long as Sporeans can understand you. You don't HAVE TO use Singlish if there isn't a need or if you do not feel comfortable with it. We appreciate our language but you don't have to and I won't expect a British to as well.

Hello, anyone out there, FEAR? I might be the only one then because I don't fear, in fact I embrace this type of potential.

[according to him/her] s/he doesn't even think s/he's "intelligent" 'cos there're others better than him/her, yet s/he's very adamant on his/her "english standards".
