Shorts sold with wrong size label but store refuses to exchange
December 18, 2008 Thursday, 05:38 AM

ON DEC 8, I went to Banana Republic at Paragon and bought two pairs of boxer shorts, both size XL. Reaching home, I tried both pairs and found one was smaller than the other, even though both had an XL label sewn into the waistband. It was probably a manufacturing defect, with the wrong label sewn into the shorts.

You bought banana but got a lemon. Perhaps you should have paid them with banana notes.

Do you know how to teach these guys a lesson? Next time go to the shop with a small blade. Pretending to check the goods, nicely tear the dress and keep it back. Do this for 10 or 15 items. Later they will face the music.

If they don't offer an exchange, then just demand a product of the correct size, they don't have to take the wrongly-labelled product back if they don't want to.

The store manager probably sensed that the letter-writer had worn his pair of boxers for at least a day and hence refused an exchange.

If the letter-writer had to drive back to Paragon to ask for an exchange, wouldn't the petrol, ERP, parking, his time etc cost more than the pair of under-sized boxers?

To be fair, most of the stores would not allow an exchange if they suspect the pants, shirts etc have been worn.

Maybe the wise thing to do next time is to ask sales assistants for help. If you can't try the boxers, and don't know what fits, ask for help. If you are too embarrassed to ask for help, or if the sales person is nonchalant about your queries, then make a wise choice - don't buy.

How you suppose to ask?
Customer: "excuse me, do you think this boxer suits me?"
Sales Assistant: "Do you know your size? I mean....your banana?"
Customer: "Yes, 10 inch I think? Can you please confirm honey?"

Banana republic made a mistake in the first place, they have no case on this.

You pay for what you get.
Next time, buy your boxers from Bugis.
