PRIVATE banker Leiny Tan was born in Wuhan city, grew up in Guangdong province and got her university degree in the United States.
But she eventually decided to make Singapore her home after arriving here as a student in 1991.
if spore is to increaese it's population, then absorbing foreign talents has to be an option. my concern is that spore seems to be giving away PR freely nowadays. is it necessary? I thought we wanted only talents?
I think the MM got it wrong, because the new generation of Chinese are also not that interested in the Romance of the 3 kingdoms as they too yearn to westernise. So we won't get too much mileage from co opting the Chinese nationals
although the language will play an important part.
But as the saying goes you have to set a thief to catch a thief. So the best man on the job will be the Chinese National coached in the Singapore ways to gain access to his own country man. But don't count too much on non- peripherals( Culture etc; etc;). The new Chinese is getting modernised just like us and their culture is also making huge shifts.
MM may want to reconsider if he knows what is actually going on. When I was in China, the supplier tried to win my favour by unleashing these so called university girls from reputable univerisities on me without any success. Maybe that is what is meant by knowing their countrymen's culture. Many retirees will surely welcome these talents. Let's just hope they are not the type I encountered in China, for Singaporeans sake.
I take back what I posted at 11.03.08. I don't think it is fair to the newcomers to group them together with what I have experienced in China. My apologies.
Ms Leiny Tan is obviously China's loss and Singapore's gain. And that's because she's studied overseas (in US) so have been to exposed to western culture and also are familiar with chinese culture (her hometown), so she's obviously a right fit to represent Singapore in the chinese market. But how many of PRs or even new citizens with her type of credentials actually want to go back to working with the chinese nationals once they're "already out of there" for whatever reasons. The chinese foreigners I meet seem to be happy just working here and be one of us.

JoJo2008 is right but Leiny Tan may not like working with the Chinese national too. She just loves their money. LOL!
1. who comes to singapore for anything other than money??? who stays in singapore other than for money reasons? people come singapore for the nature(sungei buloh!)? the view(mt faber!)? the historical artifacts(fort canning!)? the glorious culture(haw par willa!)?
2. what is the point of citizenship if being the part of the citizenry only means you got everything a non-citizen has, plus NS?
