Refering to the 2nd Link - I am a singaporean who uses the causeway 3-2 times a month. I am disappointed to say the problem lies with our own custom.Take last Sunday for example, only 5 booths were open in 1 single complex...whereas it can actually take up to 10 clearance points ( according to my observation) . This caused massive jams all the way across the 2nd link bridge. Why build such a huge complex if only 5 booths are to be opened (sometimes i noticed only 4 ! ). The problem is getting worst for in/out . And not to mention we have to pay 4.60 SGD just to get jammed. I thought that money = service and convinence ??? Please do not let the citizens pay the price just becuase some organizations did not do their job properly and let certain people escape. The Malaysian customs on the other hand is efficient and all - ALL THEIR CLEARANCE points are OPENED. It took me only 5 minutes to clear the malaysian custom.
So, then whats's new!!!!
For over 50 years , the poblem has existed oin both sides of the causeway and no one wants ro do something about it.
New complexes, newtroads, new lanes..same old jam.
It has to be the only immigration checkpioint in the world to suffer this.....treating travellers like sheep.
If the govt does not increase manning to man all booths, then the long queue continues.
If it is for short of money to pay for more manpwoer, then have one or two paid Express Lanes to collect the money from those who cannot wait, those in a hurry.
The collection can be used to pay for employing more men to man the unpaid booths.
But I can see the govt is not interested to man all the booths.
Could be economic reason not to make it easy for Singaporean motorists to go North to spend and pump. Our GDP problem.
Could be due to money reason, no budget to pay for more manpower [but many people are jobless waiting to be employed]].
Third reason, let you guys suffer longer in the queue. Bohchaap. Sounds a bit sadist.
Empty booths just mean all the above as it has nothing to do with thorough security checks looking for Mas.
