Cyber bullies turn vicious
December 15, 2008 Monday, 07:50 AM

A 16-YEAR-OLD girl here created fake profiles on popular social networking sites MySpace and Facebook with a single-minded purpose: To befriend those she disliked in school.

Cyber bullies are cowards, who use the Internet to unleash their viciousness on victims, whom they would never dare to face in person. Look no further than even a civilised Discussion Board such as this STDB. There are loads of imposters, stalkers, attention seekers & bullies who pollute the various threads with their drivel.

There are also many posters on the ST DBs who would fall under the definition 'cyberbullies'. If a poster feels that he or she has been victimised and defamed by them, the poster should consult and hire a lawyer to sue the cyberbullies, so that the lawyer could apply for a court order to reveal the identities of these cyberbullies for the legal case.

My son was the victim of an imposter profile on MySpace that accused him of illegal and obscene activity that was completely false.
I contacted Savewave.org for direction and help. SafeWave, creators of iLAND5, a bully-free and predator-free website for kids that’s free to use, and Debbie Johnston helped me navigate the system to have the imposter profile removed and finally stopped 3 months of humiliation for my son before it got any worse.
Even though the page was removed makes no difference, anything that is ever posted on the internet is out there for forever. My son is concerned with college acceptance and obtaining a beneficial job since most companies and colleges check for these things. Education and a safe place to put kids on the internet is the key. If all social networking sites were like SafeWave and verified the users identification before they could become a member, things like what happened to my son would not happen. I hope schools and parents put their kids on iLAND5.com to prevent cyber bullies from reaching our kids in the first place. iLAND5 is monitored 24/7. This site requires a child’s school to verify his or her identification before they can become a member. Members must be ages 5-18. There are no predators, bullies, or imposter profiles on this site. They also have a free downloadable browser.
All social sites for children should require verification of identification and laws should be put in place to stop cyber bullying.

No 'Complete Education' and we see the result.

Since 1965, we have been churning out more and more spoilt brats, society's pailei, thugs, liew mung, etc.

Will it ever end?

Do not really understand why many young people today are so immersed into MySpace and Facebook? The latest trend in virtual reality, I suppose. They should just go out and meet people of their age and not hide in their rooms for hours tapping away on the computers.
