Business leaders like DBS: Should stand up to pressure groups
December 09, 2008 Tuesday, 09:18 AM

LAST Friday's article, 'DBS' charity tie-up draws flak', caused me to ponder the business ethics of DBS Bank. The management withdrew its promotion supporting a charity, Focus on the Family, from its website out of fear of offending a small group of anti-family activists.

Strange, I'd have thought it'd have been the other way around.

I don't understand the argument: just because someone is not necessarily "pro-family" (whatever that means) s/he is necessarily guilty of being "licentious" (whatever that means)? Sounds like a typical(ly) emotionally-charged invective from a(n ultra-)conservative.

focus on the family, especially the american chapter, is highly homophobic and that is why the activists have written in. also, dbs should not have chosen a charity with religious links, since many customers may not be of the religion and/or do not agree with the teachings of that religion.

unewolke, pm me if you want to read more of this man's letters. ;)

Dear Mr. George,

Are you implying that DBS should support your religious belief?

Dear George Lim

You paint too much in either in black or white.

Fortunately, there are business leaders who show the very courage and tenacity that you are talking about by reversing certain acts they deem not so appropriate.

Dear DBS,

You should not make mistakes twice.

Your first mistake is your mindset of retrenching staff as the first resort during the first sign of downturn. I believe strongly that whatever the reasons you have said in our main papers' forum pages, the general populace is still bitter against our very own national bank.

Your second mistake now is withdrawing a charity support "Focus on the Family" You are dead wrong this time again.

Just listen to Our Creator of why He supports family set-up and a happy home.

I quote "Happy are those who respect the Lord and obey him. You will enjoy what you work for. You will be blessed with good things ( I interpret it as your business) You wife will give you many children. She will be like a vine that produces a lot of fruits. Your children (your clients) will bring you much good. They will be like olive branches that produce many olives. This is how the man who respects the Lord will be blessed"- unquote (Psalms 128: 1-4)

Please do not follow the carnal mind. The carnal mind is death.

WARMEST REGARDS & A HAPPY CHRISTMAS.

Hi George and readers
Please check and google Focus On The Family; benign the name may suggests but it is a front for anti-social agendas. People who have protested against the DBS' tie-up is not against family and the values the family unit represents but against the group named "Focus on The Family" . Please, google FOTF to see the real story behind it.

Dear Mr. George,

Yes, you are right.

"The concept of the family as the basic social unit is not only highly regarded by many government bodies but also respected and practised by academics, teachers and communities."

Nation = 国家
State = 国
Family = 家
A nation = state + family; and the state's interests should come first.
