December 02, 2008 Tuesday, 08:25 AM

FROM next March, motorists who do not yield to buses exiting bus bays could find themselves facing a $130 fine.

With the many special privileges given to the Public Transports Buses such as more bus lanes, full day bus lanes and now the priority to exit bus bays all at the expense of other motorists... Punishment melted to this Public Transport for failing to meet the Public Transports Standards must likewise be even more severe... to be justifiable to those motorists who sacrifices for their convenient for the benefit of our public commuters!

I suggest the Public Transport to waive their fairs for a day or one week (depending on the severity of the failures) if they failed to meet the Public Transport Standards with so much special privileges given to them!

sorry typo error, please replace "fairs" with "fares"

Therefore,
"I suggest the Public Transport to waive their fares for a day or one week (depending on the severity of the failures) if they failed to meet the Public Transport Standards with so much special privileges given to them!"

i am sibeh pissed of by this.

wake up SBS, PTC. the real solution is to increase the frequency of buses, not to implement some stupid fines.

SBS and PTC dun wan to spare $$$ to increase freq of buses, but instead try to squeeze money out of motorists??? Wah, good plan!!! I salute and applaud whoever came up with this masterstroke.

Any fine or decrease in income (waiving of fare for a period) to the company is pointless. They will just raise prices to make the difference.

The only way to 'hurt' them is to limit bonus to whole company staff. Bus drivers will feel the pinch, and so will the directors.

Buses must be able to exit from bus bays without being obstructed by vehicles to enable the former to reach various places in time as scheduled and the same are .expected by their passengers and others concerned in order to maintain punctuality which is essential in their various activities .In order to maintain this rationale the fining of the obstructing vehicles after a grace period of three months is justified

LTA is spending so much time and money to help reduce the bus journey time?

Why don't they just review their bus routes?

Don't you think that these bus companies are moving towards a profiteering mode of operations by extending their bus routes unnecessary?

One comment: These buses are already enjoying special privileges on our roads. They have exclusive bus lanes and many of us humble motorists have to give way to these big bullies on the road. The creation of bus lanes for the exclusive use of these road bullies has in fact caused jams and congestion on many roads.Sometimes, it's ridiculous to make left turns without infringing into their territories and risking a fine. This is already so stressful.

Now with this special Mandatory Give Way to buses exiting from bus bays. Many of us have already done so without the new regulation!!! Why the need to impose such regulation and fine the motorist? This is yet another measure to encourage the road bullies to cruise like tyrants on our roads. Some of these buses themselves are ignoring many traffic rules and causing massive jams with their long bodies and sitting in yellow boxes.

Please lah...don't bully the small men on the road. Thank you.

with all the ruling on bus lanes, why the commuters still have to wait like 20-60mins for bus??? ah, of cos, the bus broke down, is always the same excuse...

i think the LTA shd solve the prob by enforcing the SBS on cherry pick on the bus routes n timetable base on profitability... yes bus lane is needed, but enforce it on the feasible roads and not cause too much problem to the general motorists, as they too paid for road tax...
