I have been to HK and Japan. I can walk the streets without fear of being robbed or attacked.
In JB, I have been told by the locals the robbers are geting bolder now. Beware of motocycles with two adults on it. You can see for yourselves who these people are (I do not have to elaborate!).They will follow you until......even on bright daylight.....nobody will dare to come forward to help you.
The Malaysian police will never admit the sitution is getting worse.
Statistics is useless...they never tell the true stories.

With a new leader coming into power next year - they are all desperately trying to white-wash the dirty picture - "Our crime rates are lower than Hong Kong!" "Our economy is stronger than everyone else!" "Our people are happy!"
I live in KL - please DON'T insult our intelligence! We worry about our safety when we go out at night. We arm our women with pepper sprays and alarms. We worry about our cars being stolen even when we park in a secured carpark. Drug addiction is on the rise. All these are hard facts that we have to live with every single day. If things are so great, I would dare Najib to walk along Jalan Chow Kit after 10pm without his body guards. Even the dumbest of the policemen would not dare to venture into that area after dark. The lower crime index only means that more and more crimes are not reported to the police. All that money going into "beefing" up the police force, expect 80% of that going into someone's retirement funds.

Is this for real? Crime rate in Malaysia lower than Hong Kong or Japan. What Singaporeans experience in Johor seems to speak otherwise. I suggest that the Malaysian police check the statistician who gave such data. For all you know, that statistician could have taken bribes from higher officials or coerced into falsifying the misleading stats.
I hear that a little bribing of Malaysian officials can miraculously go a long way in giving the stats a cosmetic surgery.
