"""Patients on such medicines are putting their lives at risk. But for some, the prohibitive cost of the drugs here leaves them with no choice. """

They have only themselves to blame . No body forced them to lead a loose life, no body forced them to fool around. They really deserved what they are suffering from. Why should the Government give subsidise these people. This does not apply to those who contracted the disease not through the fault of theirs, for example, blood transfusion.

"""How can the Government expect to fight the disease when it discriminates against HIV patients by not providing them with the treatment that they need? """

They want to lead a loose life, fool around....etc. They deserve what they get. You expect the Government to waste tax-payers' money on these people ??? The money should be used on those who are genuinely sick and those who really need help.

So are you saying that we should not subsidise patients who, say, got lung cancer from smoking and liver cirrhosis from drinking because they simply deserve it?

Are we going to decide who to subsidise based on how we think they got the disease and whether they deserve the disease? Who are we to pass such judgment and play God?

All lives should be treated with respect and doctors are trained to heal all patients regardless of their race, background, character etc. If we are to administer treatment only to those whom we think deserve our sympathy, then a guy admitted to A&E due to injuries from a gang fight should only get second-class treatment and even perhaps, be left to die?

#3 cantstandthem

It is very unfortunate that dense and imbecile individuals do not conceptualize perceptive or astute responses and clearly NOT a passionate good hearted person except one who thinks with its pocketbook.

Children do not lead a 'loose' life (whatever that means) and they do not fool around. Wives of husbands who transmitted the disease to them are victims too. Ultimately, no one deserves to suffer or die from any disease/illness at all.

The goal is to find a cure so that all can live life to the fullest and be productive and not be a burden to society.

Perhaps you should re-read the article, reflect on yourself, your ill-considered statements, and honestly, if you have nothing good to say, you keep it to yourself. What you spread is just more hatred and odium. Children are victims too.

But in the same vain, HIV should be treated like any other infectious disease so that it's spread can be effectively contained. Why the need for confidentiality? Why constrain the flow of information that may allow other relevant authorities to take measures to control the spread?
Why are HIV sufferers entitled to more human rights than the rest of us? Is TB placed under Schedule 6 simply because the ah pek TB patients do not have a voice as powerful as the AIDS/HIV lobby? Its not wrong to do so....just that HIV should also be on Schedule 6.

I am glad our govt does not subsidize HIV treatment. It benefits perpetuators of a certain lifestyle at costs to taxpayers.
