KUALA LUMPUR: The National Fatwa Council should have offered an alternative version of yoga, instead of banning Muslims from practising the ancient form of exercise, said Perlis Mufti Asri Zainul Abidin.
Human civilization will progress by leaps and bounds. Everything in this world in in relentless change. Even the Universe also is in relentless change.
Everything, whether in physical or non-physical forms, will risk being obsolete if it is STATIC.
The Fatwa of National Council as well as of the Mufi of Perak is not contrary to Islamic law. However, in the modern contest the latter fatwa is preferable. In Singapore if a Fatwa of Fatwa commitee of MUIS is not unanimous, then it would be referred to MUIS Council majority of whom are not Ulema for a decision. The rationale is that the Council would approve less rigid ruling to accommodate multi religious society without offending Islamic law.
"La Rahbaniya fil Islam" There is no priesthood in Islam. Thank God for this theological democracy. In fact there are no clerics in Islam. In the time of the Prophet no such thing as Mufti or Fatwa Council. And rather than the Fatwa Council have scholars we have people of mediocrity. Why dont they criticize the excesses of the Sultans , the corruption of politicians or the misuse of ISA etc?
The only time when the Fatwa Council seemed rational was when they declared that smoking is haram which even a Madrasah Pr 4 student should know. Alas our own Fatwa Council dared not declare something Haram which should have been declared Haram the moment science discovered that it was harmful.

Yoga is medicine now? News to me. I had always thought it was something like mediation. Don't think your analogy seems apt considering how yoga in it's original form is explcitly Hindu.

You can be assured the Supreme Being yoga is referring to is not the God of the Jewish, the Christian nor the Muslim faith. And it naive to believe one can partake of the exercise and not affected by the spirituality behind it.
It is very sad indeed that even though God has decreed that man is created separate and above the other creatures, there are certainly no lack of human beings who had reverted to believing and proclaiming that they are close cousins of monkeys and apes. In their haste to 'progress' they mocked at those who had 'stagnant' but failed to realise their so-called 'progress' is in actual fact an illusion for they have regressed from the high pane God had placed them. Saddest still, they continue to crow about their triumph while at the same time equating themselves as no difference from those maggots that infest our rubbish dumps. Well, if they believe they had evolved from somewhere down there, so be it then.
Next time when you walk along a beautiful, remember to grab a hand full of sand. Observe it, and imagine that you are holding all humans in your hand. Then, pick up a sand particle and tell yourself, "Oh! I am so negligible."
Look up the sky, look at all the beautiful stars. So beautiful!
Earth itself is just like a sand particle, it too is so negligible in this vast Universe. To this Universe, Earth is just like a drop of water in the river or sea. With or without the Earth, it doesn't make any difference for the Universe.
But tiny human being keep imagining that they are so important, that this Universe exist because of them. GOD has to serve them, 24/7 around the globe GOD has to listen to their prayer.
GOD has to worry for their economic growth.
GOD has to worry for their love life.
GOD has to worry for their pet dog.
GOD has to worry for their health.
GOD has to worry for their happiness.
GOD has to reward them because they committed suicide bombing.
