if trans-cab wants to be a household name they should take the lead in providing affordable rides. students, old folks, wheel chair bound etc will be looking out for the red cabs. even some cabbies acknowledge that the present fare structures are not right even under normal economic condition. price it right to win loyalty and continuity. other public listed cab companies have share-holders pockets to worry about. so by the peoples cab.

$50 taxi rental after GST? Then you'll have a whole lot of people "grabbing" taxis for their personal use, as some already do!

The silly 30 cents so called fuel surcharge was introduced when oil was at US$120 a barrel, despite companies justifying previous fare and various other surcharge hikes using increased fuel prices as one of the reasons. With oil now at US$60 a barrel, what's the justification?

Locals and tourists have all been clamouring for simplified fare structures which taxi companies and LTA have been ignoring. So next, I can predict a 10% service charge coming up, like the restaurants!! Then a specific location pick up charge can also be rationalised, like Vivo City because it's outside the CBD.

Reduce fare structure to just peak, off-peak, flag fall and booking fee to avoid passenger confusion and driver abuse. Lower fares and the public will come running back. Get rid of ERP for taxis and you'll solve the CBD cab shortage during peak hours. Remove the archaic and paternalistic 30 year old limit for drivers and you won't have a shortage of drivers. Withhold the driving licences of all policy makers in taxi companies and LTA for 2 years and you'll have our taxi industry problems resolved quick smart.

at the end of the article, an interviewee asked "... But why aren't the other companies waiving the surcharge too since the price of diesel has fallen so much?'"

It's because they are using their million dollars minds to work out a formula to justify the surcharge. For example, maybe they big company so they also buy diesel in future prices, like our power stations. So, they have to keep the surcharge until their next forecast... or something like tat

Trans-cab is too small to make any impact. If the larger taxi operators do not reduce the 30cents surcharge, very soon Trans-cab will reverse their decision.

Hope the surcharge waiver decision by Trans-cab will have the other cab operators to follow suit. Since the diesel price has dropped, it will be fair to the commuters to have a surcharge-free taxi charges and in addition to the recent global economy-plunge, this will definitely encourage more commuters to take taxis. This benefits both the cab companies and commuters.

Give out the Trans-cabs booking number, I can use it from now on.
Let's have Trans-cab "flag down" tools and ignore C Del G, Prime etc..
I know it's impractical and improbable, but avoiding all other companies taxis woud be a decent gesture.
Pity all of the companies operate in a cartel and follow like sheep - on increases - let Trans-cab be a leader in sensibility of charges and surcharges?
