Poor S'poreans trying to save a few bucks are deprived of sleep. More accidents will happen. Pay And Pay till you die. Every which way you choose...you lose!
I totally agree with the writer, especially on Family time being sacrificed. There is something fundamentally wrong with this system. Basically, it does not take into account the behavioural pattern of the average singaporean.
erp is for the riches who can afford to pay and pay. for those can't afford to pay, either have to sacrifice family time and sleep to hit the road earlier and go home later, or give up car ownership.
afterall, sg is still is materialistic society, isn't it?
I think we are a lucky lot to stay in Singapore ... Try living in countries like Thailand or India. Some leave the house at 5 am or 6 am to beat the traffic. I'm proud to be a Singaporean. Let's learn how to be contented in life ...
The reason why city authorities want/need to regulate traffic is that traffic jams affect the smooth movement of people and goods, economic activities, productivity, etc.
But how does 'regulating' traffic flow in the evening, when workers are returning contribute to any of the above? If someone wants to sit it out in a traffic jam after work, what business is it of the city authorities?
I say, do what you have to during the day. But for goodness sake, unless you have a good reason, lift the evening ERP charges on e.g. the CTE! You don't have a reason to impose them. Its non of your business in the evening anymore.
Only a small percentage of people in Thailand and India have to leave home very early in the morning. If major cities are used in the comparison, they may be worse. But if the comparison involves the entire country, they are better.
Damn good idea (#8). Will also give an indication of the rate at which money is being sucked through our windscreens! I bet there will be a continuous stream throughout the day! Eevn if everyone passing through a gantry post give a small toot, I bet it will sound busier than a machine gun.
