A recession looms but anecdotal evidence suggests that there are young Singaporeans who do not expect the partying to end.

It is an illusion. The young are unfazed because most of them are singles and do not have a family responsibility.

We are incredibly shocked by what Agnes has said under "mum and dad will provide..."

Is this the view of Agnes's generation or the view of the "haves". Obviously she has never seen hardship.

As much as we can and should respect the choices of suucessful families, such overspending by a dependent person does present worry the future of Singapore when we come to be ruled by the generation of Agnes. Upon Agnes's generation's maturity to take over Singapore, I would be a dependent as a retiree...Will I be facing the end of Singapore when her generation starts spending away our reserves??

Surely her expenditure will help our current economic state but be unsympathetic to her friend's lack of money (left with $ 20 for the month), either points to her parent's failure to educate her or our educational system's flaw in admitting undergraduates based on grades per se.

Hopefully we will not have such leaders who will spend our country away. Kudos and saving her generation by her friend who is taking up part time job and not depending on her parents. Hopefully it is her friend who will take care of me when I retire and NOT Agnes.

Why add the unnecessary stress on young people? They are our future leaders.

I wish Agnes all the best, and that she will find a lifelong provider who would have the means to upkeep her lavish lifestyle forever. Good luck, girl.

Either Agnes is trying to act cool or she is just not smart enough...

While Agnes should takes some of the scolding, her parents should be blame also. Becoz they are the one that instill such behavior into her since she was young. Wait till she really steps into the working world, then she would understand.
