I REFER to Tuesday's comments by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) on last Saturday's article, 'More cars on the roads - COE system not working to plan'.
"The LTA, however, would like us to think that averaging out the past 10 years' growth rates gives us a result that is just what the planners ordered"
LTA and all the hallowed institutions how they ever be wrong? if wrong, simply put it down as they take a long-term view lo! if twenty years not long enough then 100 years' view.
I was quite reliably told that the LTA had used wrong or inaccurate data in its planning of, for example, the CTE.
So, quite naturally, rubbish in, rubbish out!
Also, don't forget, LHL had mentioned in parliament before about policies that would allow more car-ownership but usage control through punitive measures like the ERP. My bet is that the LTA had to tweak what they were doing to accommodate LHL's wish. So, don't expect the LTA to gripe about this 'interference'.
With ERP already in place, gahmen should scrap COE system liao. Since the want to encourage car-ownerships and usage control.
Please lah...gahmen you think we are that stupid meh?
LTA claims that it could not project number of vehicles deregistering. it is true. many stuck with loans. after you scrap the car you may have continue paying the loan or a massive top up. welcome to the deregulated democratic free market US model.
Any idiot or even a 3 year old will know that by increasing the population, the number of cars on the road will also increase. We don't need a scholar or the best caliber `mini-star' to figure that out.
What is the use of increasing the ERP and at the same time `flip-flopping' on the policy on COEs?
Now that they realised that the COE System is not working, are they going to refund us all the COEs that we have paid?
Or is this another set-up scenario for a massive increase in ERP rates in the near future!
