SBS, SMRT fined again
October 15, 2008 Wednesday, 05:42 PM

SINGAPORE'S two bus operators have been fined for not meeting service standards as the Public Transport Council flashes its sharper teeth for the first time.
SBS Transit and SMRT Buses were fined $9,300 and $1,000 respectively for failing to meet standards such as scheduled trips operated, scheduled headways, as well as passenger load for the six-month review period between Dec 1 to May 31 this year.

PTC stop all this wayang!
Unless all fines are re-distributed to commuters (they are the ones that really suffered due to operators lax in service) you can cut out all the crap!

The same scene will be acted all over again........operators not making profit (due to paying hefty fines, remember the last time SMRT was fined $400,00?)........need to hike fare prices......same old game same old shitt!

I do not want fine. The best punishment is to force them to reduce the fares. Stop the wayang and do something beneficial!

I thot i read somewhere PTC already reduced fares by forcing the operators to bear the increase in transfer reabte to 40c? They say that costs operators some $30mil every year. My friend told me his daily commute fares have REDUCED by as much as 14 cents (round trip) since 1 Oct 08. I couldn't believe it at first until I found it out myself just yesterday. Anyway thanks PTC.

Mr Gerard Ee, tell us honestly, do you think imposing (peanuts) fines on these bus operators will ever work?
If you're sincere in helping commuters, take "dingdang8" suggestion:- Force them to reduce our bus fares each time they failed to meet service standard.
How? Dare you try this out?

Fines

Pay it loh. What the big deal. The shareholders suffer what.

Better impose jail sentence lah.

It will give instant wake up call on all those guys dragging their feet not providing quality service to the public, isn't it?

Jail them. Not fine them lah.

Many Singaporeans are amazed
By cost of transport that had raised
The PTC is to be praise
For these giants to take without grace
With huge large profits in display
And improvements are not in place
As felt by us who’s anger blaze
Watch with wide eyes in dismay

Day by Day the commuters face
Crowded transport at every place
Keeping schedule is such a race
Promises to improve is without trace
No choice but to accept is our phrase
Coming out earlier is our pace
For there is none who take the grace
To stood for us with voice that raise

We the commuters must have a part
To safeguard our interest should it starts
When giants begins to play their cards
To raise their profit by having us cut
Like lamb chop on the butcher’s cart
Without changes to their service mark

Cost of fining the Public Transport will eventually pass down to us the commuters thru another fair hikes?
