Young, Singaporean and inconsiderate: Pets in public places
October 14, 2008 Tuesday, 06:07 AM

MY FAMILY and I were on Sentosa last Saturday to enjoy the Jazz by the Beach. We reached there about 7pm and the place was already full. We noticed an empty spot and decided to squeeze in there. As we were about to get comfortable and enjoy the performance, a dog behind us moved towards us, sniffing and breathing down our necks and backs. I could feel its mouth touching my back.

What is so uncivillised in taking a dog for a walk at the beach, may I ask?? I am sure the tourists will do the same in their own countries! I've been to beaches in Australia and nobody writes to the press about a dog at the beach!

I think it is you who are quick at labelling others "Young, Singaporean, inconsiderate". So what are you? Elite, educated, well-groomed? Or selfish rather?? Don't tell me you live at Serangoon Gardens as well.

Sentosa already has one of the best managed beaches around. If you want the beach to yourself, pay a little more for a private jet to Hawaii.

As a dog lover, I lament the lack of more open spaces for dogs to run and exercise. However, I think people like Jeremy gives dog owners a bad name. He should exercise more restrain and understand not everyone like dogs. As much as we want people to respect our pets, we should equally respect their rights to not being disturbed.

Dogs should not be allowed to roam freely in case it bites the people around. For this, Jeremy is at fault. He does not understand the implications and the seriousness of personal liability to the potential victims of the dog-bite.

The family who visited the beach was unreasonable. Beach is a public place. Uncomfortable, move along. Like typical Singaporeans (are they?), want to "chope" the spot and declare it theirs for the next few hours.

Singaporean again? Are you sure they are Singaporean? The dog perhaps is trying to be friendly and wanted to make friend with you. If you don't likes dogs, you should have moved to another spot quickly. Why create a scene?

Singaporeans will never turn good. Jeremy & his group are at fault & someday, other people will do bad things to them (retribution).

I also blame their parents to have just placed importance on their 5Cs & did not teach their children politeness.

Wow, some spoilt brat pet owner. A despicable though effective tactic to shoo others away at whim. He probably has spent too much time with animals to hv forgotten basic human courtesy. Then again maybe not, he hasn't learnt from his dog about respect for authority. Wait till he enrols in the Army, wonder if he can continue keeping his voice up then.

gujcleo don't try to preach about retribution when you haven't heard both sides of the story.

Quote: "All eyes were on us instead of the performers on the stage" I suspect the writer's voice must have been not much softer than jeremy and his friends :)

Yes, there's no problem with bringing pets around the beach. But this is a place where people are seated. And please dont apply ur Australian customs to Singapore. This is Singapore! The world is worse off with dimwits like you!

If I were the lady, I'd give a hard PUNCH to the dog if it encroach into my personal space. See who will get it.

Chathaupaeng...Wow. you got a good point, the dog trying to be friendly with u. If I bring a non-poisonous snake to the beach, it's my pet what. Let it bite u k? Anyways, it's not poisonous and u wont die from it.
