It is social grace and being considerate to others. If any rules or penalty are involved to have us to clear the trays, it will look very stupid on Singapore. How to make it clear? Their business will definitely go down. Will food caterers want to irk their customers?

Forget it man. Let these workers do it. You are not going to get a discount anyway. One more, please stop all these stupid campaigns for pete sake. "S'pore Kindness Campaign." Are S'poreans that unkind?

In military camps and canteens at NUS, everyone returns their trays after eating. This has become habitual for everyone, but most importantly, there is a system in place (ie tray return racks) to facilitate this behaviour. If we can do it at some places, there is no reason why it can't be done anywhere else. It's only a matter of choice.

Go to hell with all these campaigns. What are these foreign workers employed by foodcourt caterers are for? Models?

Make cleaners now to become enforcers. Shout at those who don't clear the trays and see what happens. Otherwise they will be without a job in time to come. Cleaning contractors will have to close shop.

i don't understand what has being graceful got to do with a piece of work which others had been paid to perform. Since the service provider of the facility already cater for resources to perform this and the provider has a high stake if this work is not done promptly, why are we talking about this issue about customer fighting to do it?????
There are things the GOV promotes which make senses, but when you are asked to do someone's job, do you follow?? Use your common sense, tell the GOV "gracefully", stop this.

Well said. Spot on.

This is a clear example of the goverment making a stupid statement and the ridiculous extent the Straits Times will go to parrot it. And they are also very fond of bashing the Singaporean.
