EMA explains spike
October 04, 2008 Saturday, 01:32 AM

I REFER to Wednesday's letters ('Tariff hike goes against common sense' and 'Power Points') on the revision in the electricity tariff, and would like to clarify how the Energy Market Authority regulates the tariff proposed by SP Services. Singapore imports all the fuel we need for power generation and the electricity tariff must reflect this cost. Indeed, the cost of fuel accounts for about 60 per cent of the electricity tariff.

OK...let see when the same Energy Market Authority will push the energy vendors for a reduce in price with the projected dropping of oil prices in the near future!

Crap load of bullsh!t.

Jenny Teo of EMA claims "The increase in tariff is also not linked to the privatisation of the electricity industry. On the contrary, the privatisation process has helped to promote greater competition and drive efficiency gains in the power generation companies".

How so? In the form of a sudden 21 percent spike in electricity tariffs? Lies and more lies. A 21 percent increase is what I call a sudden power surge indeed.

it would be very interesting to know their financial profit statement for 3Q 2008 . . if they’ve pegged electricity tariff at or near the highest level of the fuel oil price spike in July, but spread their oil fuel purchases during the three month period July-Sep for use Oct-Dec, then they stand to make very huge profits . . . . .

Ho ho, ms Jenny Teo suggests that privatisation has no part in the increase in price ? Please show more evidence. Look at SBS Transit. Look at how much they have sold off the power or energy plants for - billions of dollars !!! How are those companies going to recruit the money back - pass on to the consumers of course !!! Dont tell me they are charity organisations. Don't be a blockhead, Ms Jenny !

Remember Thursday's (2 Oct) Straits Times Page B8.

Talk of electricity fee hike and a big picture of a family with wide smiling faces.

What is there to smile and be happy about when cost is jumping in record percentage term?

Is there something wrong somewhere in this message?
