AS A young Singaporean, I am greatly heartened by Wednesday's report, 'JBJ's fight with PAP did not affect his sons: PM Lee, SM Goh'.
Philip joined Helen Yeo and Partners upon returning from London and he is now with Rodyk and Davidson LLP. He worked his way to what he is today. What has Goh Chok Tong to help his career? Philip does not need it.
Timothy, what are you trying to insinuate? Has any of the opposition's children being harassed or deprived of a meaningful place in society? Show me,what personal personal had Goh Chok Tong did to ensure Philip has got a place in our society.
Good god. If someone can make such a big deal out of what is the expected action of any gracious, fair-minded person, and make it seem like a personal favour or trumpet it as though it were going above and beyond one's duty, that is just plain obnoxious. And Timothy, for you to actually think that this is something great is naive.
If Mr Timorthy Lin is impressed by Mr Goh Chok Tong's gracious gesture extended towards Mr K. Jeyaretnam, please let me say that I am puzzled with Mr Goh's public disclosure of the incident, an issue (or non-issue) completely unrelated to the passing of the late MR JBJ. I am certain that the sons of JBJ, like father like sons, are men of substance who need no strings to pull, for a place in society. Like their father, they opted to stay and contribute in Singapore.
I don't see anything big with the disclosure of Mr GCT. What's the big deal? You mean that you expect children of opposition MP to be sidelined and persecuted because of the politiccal view of their parents? I supposed Mr. Timothy is living in an era of the past where the whole family pays for the conviction of 1 person. This is an equal opportunity land where the best and fittest survive. No favour or shoe polishing.
Is GCT stupid enough to publicly say, in writing, "I'm going to fix you up so that JBJ's sons have no standing in society"? Better to always say what is politically correct and do something else in private.
Notice that both JBJ's sons scrupulously avoided anything which even remotely touches on politics?
One message is possibly very clear to those who are or intend to oppose the ruling party..........." we hurt you most by hurting your love ones"....I guess JBJ's sons must have got the message....LOUD and CLEAR...or maybe I'm wrong and they prefer to stay out of politics and prefer a low profile life.
In the US it is not uncommon for presidential candidates to hurl insults at each other to the extent that would have landed you in jail in Singapore. But once the election is over, you can see the winner and the loser dining together as if they were long lost buddies. Are our PAP leaders capable of that? I think we still have a long way to go.
