when will people learn that as long as it is a monopoly, they can do anything they like and give nonsensical reasons to justify exorbitant hikes - e.g. the govt rebates are more than enough to cover the increases, so it is ok for them to hike 22%?!
why are we not given the choice and competition of utility operator but forced to be under the yoke of SP?
common sense is worthless compared to millions in profits. why are they are allowed to commit day-light robbery on hapless victims? who can be our justice and protector of consumer rights?
Liberalisation of market and competition are the games for big boys. It will not benefit consumers. See what happened when Singtel came in to complete with Starhub on the profitable live telecast right for EPL match. Do consumers get a better deal out of this 'competition'? No, we become the casualties of the dog fight!

You are right. Also, when oil price increases, utilities cost follow suit, saying utility cost is tagged to oil price, but when oil price comes down, they gave stupid reasons that because other costs like maintenance cost ....etc also increased, therefore utilities cost cannot be reduced, or at most, a small little fraction of what it should have been. This is daylight robbery!!!!!!!
In the first place, the government should not have privatised these essential services like water, power, public transport, telephone....etc., if they really care for the people of Singapore, knowing that leaving these services to those blood suckers, common folks like most of us will suffer.
our government is a good one. but is a danger they will be undone by temasek's rogue business models that only favours big companies and the rich. read toay's st, the elderly are literally begging for transport vouchers. this is pathetic. some of the massive profits made from basic essential needs should be ploughed to consumers as savings and not used to diversify to make more. there will a day of reckoning and it will be thanks to temasek holdings.
