Population hits 4.84m
September 26, 2008 Friday, 04:20 PM

THE sense of a growing squeeze in shopping malls, MRT trains and hawker centres has been borne out by figures released by the Government on Friday.
Singapore's population grew by a record 5.5 per cent last year, the highest annual spike since Census figures were collected in 1871.

With a falling birthrate, it can only mean more imported citizens, PR on top of the 1.2 'foreigners'.

We may one day need to review our official languages - the population using Hindi may outnumber at least 1 of the official languages.

Next 5.5 million.

We need the numbers.

Quality not that important as we have brainy scholars uni-trained brain elites to do the talking in Parliament.

The truth is finally out:

There are only 3.16m S'pore citizens.
There are 480,000 PRs
There are 1.2 million foreigners

In other words, 1/3 of the population are foreigners/PRs !!!!

So why must male S'pore citizens serve NS??? Why must we sweat and bleed to protect the jobs and wealth of the 1/3 leecher population??

Any Tom, Muthu and Xiao Zhiang can become PRs in a few months!!! S'pore PR must be the cheapest and easiest PR to obtain in the whole world!!!

With 4.84 million people living in our tiny island, I can see us behaving like New Yorkers soon. I've read & been told by some American friends that pushing & shoving to get into the train at peak hours, cutting queues, 'stealing' cabs from others, & general rudeness is a way of life in New York. New Yorkers also have a dislike for foreigners & tourists (including Americans from outside of The Big Apple).

the statistics make integration efforts even more crucial - we need to ensure that there is social cohesion

it demands the willingness of both local born and new citizens/residents to make that effort and it needs facilitating from the authorities

Nobody is discriminated against as much as the S'porean male in his own country.

Where is the social equality, when only young men & not women are conscripted into the military for 2 years? Why can't these women be deployed in non-combat vocations as clerks, nurses, storewomen or other administrative or support roles, thereby freeing more men for combat duties?

One of the biggest bugbears of NS, is the delayed access to employment or higher education. Many NSmen claim that they were denied career/job opportunities/promotions because of their annual In Camp Training (ICT) commitments.

A large number of S'porean males feel discriminated against when foreigners, who do not have to serve in the armed forces, enjoy the fruits of our nation's economic success too.

The allowance given to full-time NSmen is but a meagre % of what he would command in the job market. The wages of a career soldier in an equivalent vocation & rank would be very competitive, in view of the increased risk of the work.

Bearing in mind the increasingly higher educational level of recruits, their service in NS prevents them from making economic contributions in our labour market, which enjoys a low rate of unemployment. The NSmen's skills can be better utilised by employers instead of them being generalised by rank in the military.
