My family and I look forward many times to the MediaCorp Chinese serials in the evenings. Though I am not a Chinese, I do enjoy each episode (my wife is Chinese and my two children know Mandarin).
MediaCorp's artistes or directors are all so glam or dim witted. Most of their serials are too chidish and lack depth. "Hit the bottle will not solve any problems. It will increase your problems." It is an old adage. How come these directors do not understand? "jie chiu xiao chou, chou gen chou."
I've stopped watching Mediacorp's Chinese-language shows. Too many Ah Beng and Ah Lian characters, too many 'hiao' male actors (you know who), too much propaganda. The 'where to eat what' shows (including the English ones) are also terrible. Shows the hosts licking chopsticks, shoving food into their mouths, talking with their mouths open, slurping loudly, sucking soup from the spoons, etc. Disgusting!
Why does anyone bother to watch MediaCorp's productions? I don't watch - my comments comes from my observations when I surf channels. Sometimes I linger to see how bad the shows can get.
The scriptwriters can't write and the actors can't act. The dialogues are so pathetic and the deliveries are either by shouting or crying by deadpanned actors who can't emote. (There are some exceptions - eg. Adrian Pang whose talent deserves better productions)
Why waste your time? And I agree entirely with thegreyguy - the 'where to eat what' shows are such put-offs. It is so disgusting to watch them eat, stuff themselves, spout nonsense in monotones, etc. In the shows every actor/actress is supposedly an expert in the food department or the dressing department - which they are definitely not.
Generally there seems to be an acute lack of talents and ideas in MediaCorp if that they have to push every actor into such silly shows with little entertainment value. That aside, MediaCorp is guilty of misrepresenting Singapore to the world-at-large by producing such shows.
Just pay a small amount of money and watch Ch55 or Ch48 (for those who like cantonese shows). Alternativelyfor those who wants free channels, TV2, TV3 also have many cantonese shows from Hongkong...why bother watching channel 8
You will vomit blood if you watch mediacorp,HK and Taiwanese serail. It is a slow killer. Stupid antics, act acute(like kena f888 by a dog) very crass manners and low IQ. Dim witted. Watch Discovey and Animal Planet or NGC or sports channel is better.
Forgot to add - when they get drunk the Chinese tea for brandy or chrysanthemum tea for beer substitutes they use really insult the intelligence of the audience.
Another painful thing MediaCorp put us through is the same old people they keep on using to host shows, especially Live shows like year-end Countdowns. Both male and female hosts are so stiff and unspontaneous that even a squeaky rubber ducky is more natural. The repetitive "Oh yeah!" screamed out in various indiscernible accents by them jar like a broken record. Please change the hosts this year. And maybe send all the actors and actresses to some voice training courses to improve their vocals, vocal range and ability to throw their voices further so that they will stop screaming into our living rooms with their squeaky voices.
I agree with the writer. Instead of hitting the bottle perennially, the characters could also start having wild sex. All their pent-up emotions & frustrations will be swiftly & effectively released humanly like no other way can.
