Reader's tribute on MM Lee's birthday
September 16, 2008 Tuesday, 02:46 AM

DEAR Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew, may I wish you a blessed 85th birthday today. I thank you for your love and commitment to Singapore. Singapore's success and progress have been made possible because of your great vision and leadership.
I was touched when I read the report last Wednesday: 'MM: Political system has to evolve'. In particular, I was moved by this part of the report: 'Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew, who is turning 85, says he will fortify Singapore's future as long as he can.

I sincerely hope MM will stay alert up to 95. He is concerned with the next 10 years. Why? MM must have his reasons. But do MPs and NMPs dare to ask him in Parliament?

The spirit can be willing but the flesh may not for one to stay alert after 85.

GIC can drive up many heart beats and not all above 85 can be that strong for it, isn't it?

How many directors on the Boards of GIC and Temasek are above retiring age?

I sincerely hope when markets dive, their heart beats will not rise too high like a raging horse.

One's heart is so close at hand [can feel the beats] but hard to hold and rein, is't it?

I wish MM well but only wish that he leaves us alone to look after our lives.

To MM Lee: Sir, happy birthday. Take it easy and relax. Leave the worrying about Singapore to your son.

Happy Birthday MM Lee, and many more years to come. Please continue to share your experience & knowledge with Singaporeans....and also think about option to release/distribute videos of your past speeches & interviews for younger Singaporeans to learn.

Mediacorp should have it all in their archives....it should be made into dvds for study materials in certain public admin / policy courses / modules in the uni

Really glad we are not part of the on going political saga engulfing the nations around us. Just that we need to be more open about the profile of future generation of leaders, need a more diverse pool of people. We will be fine as a nation as long as we continue to be open, not only to foreign talent and investment but towards our own people. This legacy will last.
