It does not matter if you self park or valet park the car. If there is no lots means there is no lots. When there are no lots, the valet merely park their cars along the driveway and manages them by moving when needed in order not to cause obstruction. HDB considers this as illegal parking when the vehicles are not waiting for lots with no drivers in sight. It is tough to operate a business when authorities do not give a go-ahead.
I feel for this entrepreneurs. Why ask them to close down when they offer a much needed service in a constraint parking area? Besides they are offering a service and yet they are being asked to close operations. Feel you guys man!!! :((
This is another case of the authorities losing touch with what is happening on the ground, & as a result, taking action which disrupts the lives of ordinary S'poreans.
Civil servant's mentality at work here once again. No discussion and feedback but a blanket ban to solve problems. As long as the authority in charge of carparks solves their problem, it does not matter if it creates problems for the business entreprise within the vinicity cos' that's not their responsibility. Sad.
PAP should have their next meeting or function at Holland V, such as Wala wala, so they can experience the pain of parking there espc without valet...
On the serious note, think the authorities mis-informed on this... I bet they been getting complains from the stingy drivers who refuse to pay for valet yet blaming valet of taking up the carpark spaces, not knowing that getting rip of valets will worsen the situation...
Holland Village has faced a parking crunch for many years.
The situation got considerably worse 4 years ago, after many lots were removed because of the construction of the MRT station. It won't be completed till 2010, so the ban on valet services will just make things from bad to worse.
The carpark with only 1 upper deck (behind Cold Storage) is grossly inadequate to ease the problem. To compound matters, 50% of the parking space at Holland V is reserved for season ticket holders. I thought that HDB is supposed to make life easier for S'poreans - not add to our problems. Just like the Chinatown ERP cordon, this latest move to ban valet services at Holland V will result in more hardship for small businesses in the affected area.
