Why WP didn't get permit for event
September 09, 2008 Tuesday, 02:06 AM

I REFER to last Thursday's letter by Mr Tan Ghee Gay, 'Why 'no' and 'yes'?', regarding police decisions with respect to the Workers' Party's (WP) proposed mass cycling event last year, and the carnival on Aug 31.

Ya, East coast park indeed is a long stretch area of about 5 to 6 km. It will be difficult to deploy enough manpower ( MIB ) to ensure the safety of the member of public using that stretch of park there at the same time.
Tendency of bicycle collision is high, and thereby causing injury to the member of public usine the park. East coast park service road is narrow, difficult for the ambulance to gain access too.
All the above are added points to the refusal of issuing a permit.
It is understandable, as the event is classified as high risk.
I think the police have done a good job by making this decision.
Well done MIB, keep it up, we need dedicated people like you to safeguard our nation.

Very unfortunate indeed that our police force thinks that having political events outdoor equates to potential of disorder and unruly behaviour. It is simply an insult to the public that we cannot control ourselves.

WP is not very smart mah! Just like commercial companies, try to develop some "non-commerical/political" organization. Just like AIA on Manchester United, or some schools, sports club/facilities (like Allianz Arena - world cup stadium) or charity?

Shows that WP does not have the commitment & people to even maintain (develop is easy) its own non-political support organization.

Shows that after all these years, the WP still don't know how to play the game. Sigh.

a rose by any other name would smell as sweet and a skunk as smelly. what's the difference when the activities are the same whether it is the charity or party that puts the name in paper as the organiser?

Ya lah ya lah, we all know that PAP Community Foundation is non-political and has nothing to do with the PAP at all. It's just good fortune that our dear leader has the time to grace the ikan bilis function of this non-political foundation- on a SUNDAY, no less.

wapiang eh, how on earth is a mass cycling event (even if organized by a political party to commemorate its 50th anniversary) likely to cause disorder and disruptive behavior if a carnival for kids and families is adjudged not to? wapiang eh, actually need a dsp to write this kind of nonsense ah? see liao la, mata!

and what's the relevance of the last 2 sentences? to pad on to the rubbish?
