Ms Lee Bee Wah's outburst is a typical sign of "Kiasuism." Deplorable and very childish. Ms Lee should be replaced rightaway. The table tennis team owed her nothing.
Gao Ning lost to a better player that's all. What can the coach do even if he was around? By offering a few pointers during a break will help? It is debatable.
It clearly showed that Ms Lee is a national disgrace and a sore loser. Talking of being a gracious society, Ms Lee's stupidity is a slap in S'pore's face!
Zhang Yining and Wang Nan battled against each other without any coach around. It's good to reflect upon yourself without any coach to give yourself the mental discipline and the grit to move on. China is a class above everybody.Practice, training and discipline and more practice, training and discipline. I don't think our Team have them.
Don't be a spoilt and crying baby always whinning and complaining. You lose to a better player. No need to blame anybody. Don't be a spoil sport.
the art of "Jia huo yu ren" (Blaming other for family problem)-most of us are very good in this art. The player should have been prepared long ago just like
a student sitting for his exam. List minute mugging what for? So whether the coach is present will not make him a better player during the one or two
minutes breaks. On the other hand, it may give the player added pressure from the body language shown by the coach.
Somehow I have this feeling that the president of STTA is rushing to steer herself clear of the responsibility by pushing the blame to someone down the line..
But didn't she think that as the head of STTA, it is also her responsibility to ensure that such blunders will never happen?
Only a bad leader will blame the coach. Does Ms Lee Bee Hwa knows how to play table-tennis? A leader has no room to complain, feel sad or criticise. Is Ms Lee going to accord all her accolades to the players if they had won?
Ms Lee should be sacked right away. It is a disgrace! Her uncalled for burst in public showed that she is not the right person and immature. No depth and charisma. Just plain stupidity. I would not yelled at my clients if they short-changed me. After all I am in this position like Ms Lee.
I think Ms Lee Bee Hwa does have a case here, because it is a matter of principles. Where was the coach when Gao Ning was playing? 'Eating snake'?
A silver medal is not a 'mian(2) si(3) jin(1) pai(2)'. Just because our women's table tennis team got a silver medal does not mean that the coach should have acted irresponsibly and with impunity.
I am disappointed with the outcome. We are supposed to celebrate success.. I am sure morale of the coaching staff and the team are all affected. Even when we are not there, I am greatly affected by the way our leaders reacted.
Referring to this book about "developing the leader within you" talks about "A real leader knows the difference between being the boss and being a leader".. as illustrated by the following:
- the boss drives his workers; the leader coaches them
- the boss depends upon authority; the leader on goodwill
- the boss inspires fear;the leader inspires enthusiasm
- the boss says "I"; the leader says "We"
- the boss fixes the blame for the breakdown; the leader fixes the breakdown
- the boss knows how it is done;the leader shows how
- the boss says"go";the leader says "let's go"
Miss Lee Bee Wah is an utter disgrace to Singapore and to its table-tennis team. It is so obvious that it is she who was instrumental in the sacking of team manager Antony Lee and head coach Liu Guodong over the Gao Ning incident. She was clearly overstepping and abusing her authority as President of the STTA.
Will Gao Ning have won against Croatia if there was a coach at the ringside? Goa Ning simply lost to a better player, period. Why put the blame for Gao Ning's loss to the team manager and head coach? They had valid reasons not to be at the ringside on that day.
Ms Lee acted in a disgraceful, childish manner. Her outburst over the media was uncalled for and reflects poorly on her upbringing and pedigree. She acted like a spoilt child who could not get what she wanted and started to blame everyone else for it. To sack the team manager and head coach just after the silver medal and before the closing ceremony is most undignified and ungracious. These internal issues could have been settled upon return to Singapore and not aired in the public for all to see. What will others think of the Singapore team?
Ms Lee - this is the second time you behaved disgracefully and embarrassed Singapore. Your maiden speech in Parliament was full of rubbish - you used unparliamentary language like pung-sai, jamban etc. Now you throw temper tantrums at the team manager and lead coach for no apparent reason simply because Gao Ning lost to a better player. You are not fit to be an MP Ms Lee. You should resign from the STTA and retire from politics. I have no respect for you Ms Lee.
