India, I love you for ignoring all that Olympic hype

IT WAS with great interest that I read the article '1.1 billion people, only 1 gold' (Aug 13). I have to say it offered some refreshingly different perspectives on sports and the Olympics.
Extending these views beyond "subtle China bashing", since so many things are not important perhaps nations should not even have armies and people should not even be bothered to vote.
India should not have any conflict with her neighbours and should let terrorists go free.
All these costs could also be channeled to give better food to the hungry and so forth .......... but hang on aren't these also building up non-eternal assets?
I believe everyone should explore one's potential and try your best to be the best in the field. Thats what Olympics for, it provide a venue for these hardworking, determined, disciplined & never-giveup sportsmen/women to compete and accomplish their live time goal. What is the point of being Mr Average, with no aspiration and motivation to push yourself further than you can?
As for india, I think their inabilities to win more medals than they could are not by choice, is more like they can't. Even with shear size of their population, their sport facilities & government funding (beside cricket) are far lacking as compare to other countries. If indian really dont worship sports glory, the country won't erupts in joy when their shooter won gold & boxer qualified for semi.
Why is such an article ever published? It has only defence and praise for India. Why does the ST Forum see it fit for Singaporean? That is one thing obvious about the ST, and that is, it is ever ready to stand up for India and Indians. Even more so than for Singapore and Singaporeans. The writer having a non-Indian name does not make it less biased.
