August 09, 2008 Saturday, 05:34 AM

MY FAMILY has lived in Geylang for several years. We have heard about and anticipated enhancements to the area but sadly, not much has been realised.

First and foremost thank you very much STTeam for this thread. I love Geylang very much. It is a happening and vibrant place. Please do not look at Geylang with tinted lens.

Shawn Tan, if the sight of Geylang and Joo Chiat is an eyesore to you, go elsewhere for the devil may care. Prostitution in these places is rampant and the reason why the govt turn a blind eye is because it has become a culture.

Let me brief you and the demographics. Joo Chiat is for Vietnam, Geylang=China, Beach Rd=Thailand, Orchard Towers/LP =Philippine,Serangoon=Bangaladesh and India, Keong Saik Rd=M'sian. If you are a well travelled person, every country has its selling point for vices like King's Cross

Has any serious crime happened in Geylang or any other places where scarlet's women gather? Very rare. The enforcement agencies are well informed and the situation is well controlled. Bangkok.s Patpong is not safe at all. Come to Geylang yourself and after a good meal. you and your so-called friends can gawk at all these ladies for free. Care to have one to go down with a cold Tiger Beer?

Hey Shawn, since you don't like the area move out of it and stop being such a hippocratic saint or a judegmental purist.

Eh, pleese lah, why are there so many spoil sports nowadays? Kacau the small croc in Pasir Ris lah, want Geylang and Joo Chiat to be closed lah. S'pore already being teased in the world for being a boring and squeaky clean place. You want to kill the tourism industry and the night life here, ah? You want the roads to be scrubbed with soap or not?

34 wei,

Have to agreed with you that geylang is basically quite safeunless one trying to be a nuisance.
Last nite, when fetching someone to Lor.8, at the turn of the road, there were some ang mor, standing there, you know what ? They were watching this lion dance troupe practicing on the metal pole in the back lane.

I think what they need to do is to streamline the traffic flow there.
not the people or activities.
