A TOP Nepalese neurosurgeon has accused Singapore doctors of failing to provide after-care treatment for former conjoined twins Ganga and Jamuna Shrestha.
it is just an excuse by the Nepalese healthcare folks for thwarting their responsibilities. If they realised that the family could not afford to have the best healthcare, should they not have taken over the care instead of blaming Singapore? Who is of closer proximity? Although we have done so much for them, we are still willing to complement their treatment. Having said that, I just wonder why SG did not give the money to the family? Why is it still holding onto the $58K?
Did SGH play the role of custodian well? Prudence demands that the money is not squandered, But effective oversight should have included regular follow up and tel calls or tie up with some social workers in Nepal to truly understand what was going on in the lifes of the twins.
Why hold the money so tightly that the kids cant even get treatment at Nepali hospitals due to a lack of cab fare or money for other expenses..
Shame on SGH for failing to monitor effectively...and finishing what it started.
It all depends on what is written in black and white. What gives Dr Pants the legal right to claim that S'pore should have finished what it started? That said, S'pore has learnt a lesson that if they want good press when helping in a critical medical case for poorer countries, they should stay on their toes and follow through generously or they could get blamed when things go bad. Sadly, S'pore hasn't had very good success press wise in conjoined twin operations.
As usual S'pore is fond if not addicted to gaining international fame. If SGH started the operation, it should see through it till the end. The balance of the monies should be returned to the family at once. Why hold to the money? Sg had failed in a almost smiliar operation by Dr.Keith Goh. Please be humble to reflect on your inability.
As a custodian, SGH should have made the extra effort to understand the financial background of the family in Nepal and allow them to claim or reimburse any relevant expenses. People donated the money because they know the family is poor and cannot afford for the twins, yet the money is being withheld, causing them to be unable to afford taxi fares & etc for relevant aftercare sessions. What is the point then? Back in Nepal, does the family has the means or even knowledge of how to seek financial assistance for the fees/ expenses from the fund being held and deposited here in a singapore bank account? We have to bear in mind that the information systems/ technology in Nepal may not be as efficient as Singapore. Instead of pushing the blame around, try to save the other twin before it's too late. THen what, the 58k will become the funeral expenses for them???
It's easy to point fingers. If Dr Basant Pant was so concerned why didn't he help? Why depend on foreigners to help a fellow citizen? This is victim mentality!
