August 05, 2008 Tuesday, 02:26 AM

MY BROTHER'S maid was given a day off regularly. One day, he returned home to find her and his three children crying together. Upon probing, he found that her relationship with her boyfriend in Singapore had soured and she was so upset, she couldn't carry on with her duties.

The poor maid had a total mental breakdown. Aiyah... be compassionate and suck up the bill lah.

easy for you to say. ever had a bill that comes up to $10K in your face? try it. then you would be more sympathetic...toward the employer...that money could be used for so many necessary things...not the maid's use...

#3 - like a Arctic cruise for two?

Look... you hire someone, you undertake part of their welfare as well as certain risks.

Luck of the draw Mdm Peh - unfortunately your brother picked a lousy card which cost him a pretty penny. Perhaps you should read Karen Lee's letter about discrimination by employers in job interviews and follow her suggestion and get the government involved in this one as well.

If it wasn't for bad luck,I wouldn't have no luck at all. These maids like to eat out on day offs and when they are lovesick, or got bitten the nightmares for the employers begin.

I guess your maid is a Filipina. "Lolita, light of my life, fire my loins,my sin,my soul." Stupid and irresponsible maids that create nightmares. Discern.

The first line of the letter says it all... all her brother's problems were "caused" by the maid being given a regular day off. So better not let them out of the house.

Please, slavery was abolished some time ago i think.

when you avail a service you are bound by the risks attendant. now you cannot try to seek sympathy and escape paying your dues. this is practical life.

#9, So do you think that the company that you are working with is fully liable for your medical fees should you one day be stricken with a disease that makes you unable to function at all in the workplace?
