sad but true. materialism bite both ways - for the poor even at Sec two girls, obviously underaged they are selling their bodies to older men. get caught by parents then claimed they were raped and the men charged for underaged sex. poly girls `bao' by dirty married old men for the same reason - MATERIALISM. to buy branded goods, have a better lifestyle.
The rich spoilt brads of professional indulgent parents like my dentist friend - have a different kind of materialism. Their ever so loving parents will indulge their whims to travel every year to Europe, South Africa, Canada, America - they turn up their noses at Asean destinations. their class mates go so they must follow the Jonesses.

why are you surprised? we have assiduously inculcated this attitude from the top down. the casinos are being built on a foundation of pragmatism, of chasing the most efficient money-maker regardless of what we may feel to be right or not. modern singapore is known for great efficiency, clean government, green city - but we are not exactly noted for being principled to the point of suffering for our beliefs. the antidote to materialism is in some ways a moral idealism - i seem to remember a govt minister saying during the casino debate that we should eschew an "ideological" approach in favor of a "sensible, pragmatic" approach. we cannot be surprised if the generation that grows up in this culture will automatically look for the hand that feeds them best, and to expect the most delicious morsels as their right.

A recurring topic on ST forum. I think as parents spend less and less time with children (due to work, lifestyle...etc) they have to use material means to make up for their guilt and as incentives to get their children to behave, do well in school etc. On the other end, crafty children only feel motivated if there is a carrot dangling in front of them, or worse, demand material satisfaction (as blackmail) from parents. If this is already happening in families with 1 kid, do you want to amplify this 2x or 3x by encouraging/providing incentives for families to have more children?

We need Jesus Camps where kids pray to the Lord night and day and shall ask for his guidance in EVERYTHING they do. Make them feel the guilt from young. Very important.

HalleLooYa is an imposter. A genuine Christian will be aware that Jesus never puts us on a guilt trip. He taught us to be genuinely remorseful & seek forgiveness. #6 is posting such material to elicit a negative response from anti-Christians.

The Lord is Almighty. O Lord please spare the men from going through all avenues of sins. Please re-direct them O lord to the Righteous Path. Do not commit rape and molest. Come to ye the Geylang Right Light is shinning brightly on yea. Amen.

"We maintain that the guilt of sin is too heinous to be so frivolously expiated; that the offense is too grave to be forgiven to such valueless satisfactions; and, therefore, that forgiveness is the prerogative of Christ's blood alone."

-- John Calvin (1509-1564) "The Institutes of the Christian Religion"
